I’m purchasing an Xbox Live Indie Game every day, seeking out the quality titles that got lost in the shuffle and no longer appear in the top 50 downloads. Today is day #59, and today’s game is “Superspace”.
This game invokes some of the look and feel of games I played on my Commodore 64 growing up, but does so in an unspecific and massively upgraded way. Think of this game as what Asteroids would have become had they added puzzle elements, a full physics engine (and puzzles that rely on it), power-ups, co-operative and competitive multiplayer, and even a racing mode that is Asteroids meets Super Sprint. This game is worth its 80 Microsoft Points and then some.
The game has you destroying turrets, exploring levels, delivering crates, and many other things besides. There’s a surprising amount of variety amongst its 36 levels and its game modes, more than you usually see in an 80 MSP game. Animation is smooth, and some of the power-ups are very satisfying. This game is great singleplayer, and fantastic multiplayer, and is highly recommended for fans of all of the above.
