Day 63: Apple Jack

Posted: 2011/01/11 in Indie Games

I’m purchasing an Xbox Live Indie Game every day, seeking out the quality titles that got lost in the shuffle and no longer appear in the top 50 downloads. Today is day #63, and today’s game is “Apple Jack”.

A game that is unabashedly for the hardcore platform gaming fan, Apple Jack brings a lot of charm, innovation, and long play value for a mere 80 Microsoft Points.

Be warned that the difficulty ramps up quickly in this game. Like Super Meat Boy, or Soul (which I actually liked better), you have unlimited lives, and you’ll need them.

The level design is ingenious, breaking out of the pure exploration, avoiding, and attacking enemies that dominates the platform genre. I could describe it in detail and possibly ruin some of the joy of exploring and learning the universe of Apple Jack. Perhaps I’ll be so bold as to say that the game costs as little as $1 (depending on how much 80 Microsoft Points costs where you live), and if you are any kind of a platform game fan please just buy it and discover it for yourself.

For a second opinion, check out Kobun’s review of Apple Jack.
