Day 98: Space Racer

Posted: 2011/02/15 in Indie Games

I’m purchasing an Xbox Live Indie Game every day, seeking out the quality titles that got lost in the shuffle and no longer appear in the top 50 downloads. Today is day #98, and today’s game is “Space Racer”.

Space Racer is a fun little 80 Microsoft Point game that plays out a bit like a top-down Road Rash, where you boost and bash your way through the race.

First, from the developer:

“Now with all new extra bonus tracks and normal/hard difficulties! Intense retro racing with a modern shine! Choose from four unique ships to race and try to unlock all twelve main tracks and three bonus tracks. Play against the computer or have a 2nd player jump in anytime. Locally saved hi-scores and best times lists to beat.”

Making me imagine what a more competitive version of “Streamline” might be like, Space Racer brings a great neon aesthetic to the table. It isn’t a tremendously deep game, but does it have to be? It offers retro arcade racing thrills in an attractive package for a great price, what more could you ask of it?
