Battle High: San Bruno is an homage to a variety of classic 2D fighter influences. Bits and pieces of classic Capcom, SNK, and Sega fighters are in evidence. Battle High’s a flawed masterpiece, with occasional balance issues living side-by-side with quality animation, tight controls, and a wide variety of characters. Like with any fighting game, it lives or dies based on its multiplayer (because mastering the AI in these games is almost always a matter of ‘when’, rather than ‘if’), and there is a great deal of fun to be had here on that score.
