Tired of neon-drenched twin-stick shooters? Then how about a dual-stick shooter where you’re a tank defending cookies from zombies? Look past the kitschy premise, and there’s a tremendous game in “Zombiez 8 My Cookiez”.
The game casts you in the role of defence, against zombified cookie monsters. The zomies can’t actually hurt you, but what they can do is snag your cookies (the loss of which means losing the level). Because you’re defending multiple cookies, and the zombies swarm and pull them away from you in every direction, this game is a natural for co-operative multiplayer, but if you do choose to play it solo you’ll find a tremendous challenge here.
At launch “Zombiez 8 My Cookiez” had a 400 Microsoft Point price tag, and I’m certainly not here to tell you it wasn’t worth that as I can think of piles of 800+ point Xbox Live Arcade games that aren’t as fun IMO, but the debate is moot now that the game has dropped to 80 MSP. With a premise so ridiculous that it almost wraps all the way around back to seriousness, “Zombiez” is well worth 80 points.
Here’s what the developer (Fritz) wants you to know about the game:
“Uh-oh!! Humanity is in trouble now. Zombies have evolved. They’ve realized that brains taste like, well, brains and they’re now after your favorite calorie laden snacks instead. It’s up to you to stop them — blast them, fry them, burn them, launch them off the kitchen table. Whatever you do, KEEP THOSE DAMN DIRTY ZOMBIE HANDS OFF YOUR COOKIEZ!!!”
