Day 379: Insanity

Posted: 2011/11/24 in Indie Games

Now this is going to be a short review. “Insanity” adds challenge in an unusual way: you play two games simultaneously. Unlike “Can You Handle Two At Once” from Stegersaurus games (also in the indie channel), “Insanity” doesn’t have you playing two games side by side, it has you playing two games that stretch across the entire screen. The two games in question are essentially Pong and Space Invaders, so what it lacks in variety of games it makes up for in coordination challenge. The trial tells you all you need to know about whether this game is for you, and I strongly recommend a download since it’s quite different than most every other game you’ll come across.

Here’s what the developer (capturesteve) wants you to know about “Insanity”:

“Can you pat your head and rub your stomach at the same time? Insanity is an intense blend of classic pong and space invaders. Multitask through twenty challenging levels to save your home planet, NExidus, from alien invasion.”

  1. What a bizarre idea. But bizarre gets my attention.

    • That’s exactly how I feel about it. I’ll pay 80 MSP for something bizarrely different every time, if it looks even halfways well executed. A lack of innovation in the game industry is a common complaint amongst gamers, and these are opportunities to put your money where your mouth is.

      • Agreed. That’s the main thing that keeps me coming back to the indie channel. It’s my chance to play types of game that the mainstream as it stands would never touch.

      • The list of things that the mainstream never touches keeps growing, too. Remember when puzzle and racing games were all the rage amongst boxed retail games? Now you have to search hard to find any. Yet the indie channel is chock full of them.
