Day 385: World War Toon

Posted: 2011/11/30 in Indie Games

“World War Toon” was clearly inspired by Risk, but isn’t a straight clone. New features include the ability to apply reinforcements in the middle of a battle, and units that roll more dice than others (tanks roll 3 dice, infantry only 1). Animation is sparse, but graphics are colourful and well stylised. If you don’t enjoy Risk then there’s nothing here that will change your mind, but if you are a fan then this is an easy 240 Microsoft Point purchase if you like playing against the computer (multiplayer is unfortunately absent, but most of my Risk games over the years have been solo against computer opponents and I know I’m not alone in that).

Here’s what the developer (JeBuS) has to say about the game:

“Inspired by board games of old, World War Toon is a re-imagining for the digital era. This quick-paced turn-based strategy game is simple to play, but difficult to master. Use the abilities of infantry, tank, and rocket launcher units to your advantage as you conquer the world. Featuring random maps every game, no two games are ever the same.”
