Day 421: I, Zombie

Remember when Sega turned gaming on its head when it released the Genesis (or Mega Drive, if you prefer) game Jurassic Park where you had the option to play as the raptor? AwesomeGamesStudio also take the approach of turning an gaming trope on its head with “I, Zombie”, a game where you play as the zombie trying to turn the humans. And best (and most surprising) of all, it’s a squad-based game where you lead your turned zombies into battle.

The gameplay reminds me a bit of the Amiga classic Cannon Fodder, and in a very good way. The game offers you a top-down view where you have to consider enemy sightlines, and control a group towards a common end. Unlike Cannon Fodder where you would shoot your enemies (usually), here you have to get up close and personal to take them down. And the enemies you’re attacking are the ones with the guns, not you. This is an 80 Microsoft Point game that a lot of people are going to enjoy, and I strongly recommend it.

Here’s what the developer (AwesomeGamesStudio) has to say about the game:

“Quite a different zombie game – this time YOU are the zombie! Command your infested comrades, fight your way to freedom and let the zombie kind dominate the world!”
