“The Great Paper Adventure” is a side-scrolling shoot-’em-up where everything looks a bit like a paper cutout. Controls are tight and solid, with you controlling your ship with the left stick and shooting with the right. You also have bombs and other power-ups. It’s another game that eschews the modern “bullet hell” aesthetic for a more classic feel, despite the newfangled graphical look. Enemies are interesting, occasionally amusing, and sufficiently challenging. Audio is appropriately chiptune, and levels large and quite diverse from one to the next. I also enjoy that it changes scrolling perspective a few times throughout the adventure (shooting left and right, while the screen scrolls up or down, for example). A nice 240 Microsoft Point diversion.
Here’s what the developer (Valryon) has to say about the game:
“The Great Paper Adventure is a single-direction scrolling shooter with funny 2D graphics and awesome chiptune music composed by Spintronics. Explore many levels, defeats giant bosses and discover a fantastic and papered world !”
