With a name that I can only hope is a tongue-in-cheek homage to classic B-grade action movie “They Live”, “They Breathe” is what the developer calls a “slow, story/experience-driven indie game,” and a brilliant one at that. That’s all I needed to recommend this 240 Microsoft Point effort.
The game has you traveling through a flooded forest, but it’s not simply about platforming your way through. In fact, success comes from uncovering the story, and sussing out how the ecosystem around you is working in its current state. Divine those secrets and a pretty cool story (with a twist at the end) is waiting for you.
Here’s what the developer (“The Working Parts”) has to say about the game:
“A lone frog descends into the depths of a drowned forest where nothing is what it seems, competing with strange creatures for a limited supply of oxygen, and discovers what really lies beneath the surface.”
