Playing a bit like the popular paintball games that we saw several of on the original Xbox, but with paintball guns replaced with something like Nerf weapons, “Avatar Deathmatch” is a fun 80 Microsoft Point first-person shooter romp.
The game was glitchy when it first came out, but two post-release updates have added content and improved reliability. Credit to the developer for strong post-release support. Like the paintball games I compared it too, this doesn’t have all the content (perks, armour abilities, etc.) you associate with the latest Halo or Call of Duty, but that’s not necessarily such a bad thing. When I play a puzzle or a strategy game, I don’t always go for the most complicated one I know either. The game does offer a selection of weapons (including a cool crossbow to snipe with), online multiplayer, and a graphical aesthetic that fits with the Nerf-like motif. And I like avatars for multiplayer matches games like this, it’s games like these where their inclusion makes a lot of sense to me as it adds serious personality when compared to an FPS with your typical super soldier and/or space marine.
Here’s what the developer (Lighthouse Games Studio) has to say about the game:
“The ultimate First Person Shooter with Avatars, take your friends down on the battlefield!”
