Day 713: Raventhorne

Posted: 2012/10/22 in Indie Games

How the heck did I miss this? It’s a brawler with an upgraded Golden Axe feel, and it’s even from Milkstone Studios who’ve done a tonne of games that I like (if reviews of “Sushi Castle”, “Little Racers STREET”, “Avatar Panic”, “Avatar Ninja!”, “Inflamous”, “Wool”, “Infinity Danger”, “MotorHEAT”, “Firing Range 2”, and “Little Racers” are anything to by).

“Raventhorne” picks up where Golden Axe left off, in a sense, by adding a Norse-themed storyline, forcing the player to manage several stats simultaneously (magic, stamina, and health), and to select spells (that affect your stamina, your health, your attack power, and call down a lightning strike area-effect weapon, depending on which one is used).

Stamina effects the game more than you might think. Suddenly this is a 2D brawler where constantly mashing on the attack button may not be the right thing, as that will tax your stamina. Dodging attacks takes on a new significance, and it gave the game a very different feel that I appreciated. Well worth a measly 80 Microsoft Points.

Here’s what the developer (Milkstone Studios S.L.) has to say about the game:

“Milkstone Studios proudly presents an epic 2D adventure of glory and vengeance! Help Raventhorne, the fallen norse hero fullfill his fate and take revenge for his death! Clear your way through the 6 worlds of Yggdrasil, and reach Asgard before Ragnarok is unleashed.”
