Today game, “qrth-phyl”, is a bit like “Snake” as reinterpreted by ’80s classic “The Lawnmower Man”. Or maybe through the eyes of Tetsuya Mizuguchi (creator of “Rez”). Yes, it’s 3D snake, and it’s good. Very good, actually. You’ll need more than the 8 minute trial to get a hang of the controls, but once done it’s well worth it’s 80 Microsoft Points thanks to attractive and imaginative presentation that’s bright and colourful. Best of all, it doesn’t try to do too much or overstay its welcome, the scope of the game is just right. Best genre-reimagining since Tempest 2000, if you ask me.
Here’s what the developer (hermitgames) has to say about the game:
“Arcade documentary of maze/dot/snake mechanic within changing dimensions, axis locks and the corruption of the system. Collect, grow, avoid your past, find new space, wake up…”
