I’m not sure being a basketball fan is a prerequisite for enjoying “Avatar Street Basketball 2”. Heck, I’m not sure being a basketball fan is even an asset for enjoying it, because this is no simulation. This is about as much a simulation as “One on One: Dr. J vs. Larry Bird”. And that’s what made me interested, as I’m no basketball fan (the only sports I follow are hockey, cycling, and the CFL).
“Avatar Street Basketball 2” is mass market friendly thanks to doses of humour references to other indie games that I think a lot of players will appreciate. There’s a zombie mode, where you throw zombie heads instead of basketballs. There are a variety of themed courts that are pretty attractively rendered. There’s even a reference to the “Baby Maker Extreme games” which has you shooting (periodically) babies at the basketball hoop. There’s so much personality in this game that it’s well worth 80 Microsoft Points.
Here’s what the developer (Bionic-Thumbs) has to say about the game:
“Shoot hoops with your avatar to be the best scorer in the world! Six courts and six different game modes are waiting for you in the firts “basketball” game with zombies on it!”
