If you’re like me and have struggled at times to get into a Picross-style game, then “Picbox” may be for you. It has the puzzling gameplay you’re looking for, but with a solid tutorial that makes it easy to get into. If you’re into this style of game (or thought you might want to be, if you could ever figure it out), then “Picbox” and its 100 levels are a perfect entry point to the genre. There are even leaderboards, which is a neat addition for a puzzle game. Lots of value here for 80 Microsoft Points.
Here’s what the developer (Stinky Badger Games) has to say about the game:
“Create pixelated pictures from the number clues in this addictive puzzle game! Featuring 100 puzzles, 28 awardments, a tutorial video to get you started, and many hours of puzzling fun!”
I did the trial on this and was able to watch the video on how to play but when I went to play the game itself I kept getting an error and was not able to even try it once. Looks cool and I was hoping for more than a broken game.
Hey, thanks for featuring my game! I’ve read your site since the beginning and wondered if any of my games would make it!
David: Really sorry to hear you’ve had a problem with it, the game has been out since February 2012 and this is the first I’ve heard of it crashing.
Can I ask exactly when it happened? Did you see the loading animation?
Has anyone else had problems?
Once again, many thanks!
Liam.
I didn’t have any problems. I have three Xbox 360s, I’ll see if I have problems on any others.
Feel free to mention any/all of your other games in the Announcements section, I do check there every so often for review inspiration. Thanks for taking the time to create such a great game, and offer it at such a low price. When I imagine myself trying to do the same, I’m absolutely humbled at how much work must go into game development. And for people to do them as a labour of love, in their spare time? Unreal. I barely am able to scratch together a review of a game each day in my spare time, let alone code them in my spare time!
I was able to watch the video on how to play. Every time I tried to play the first puzzle I got an error and it shut down. After trying this 3 times I gave up and deleted the trial off my Xbox. Maybe something was corrupt in my download so I will try once more and check back with you on what exactly is happening if it continues or not.
Always nice to see the developers that care.
No troubles with the trial this time. Never heard of this type of game before but I like it. I like to use my brain when playing games.
Hi David, glad it works now! Thanks for trying it again, put my mind to rest! =)
I’d never heard of Picross, but watching that gameplay makes my head spin! It took me a minute to figure out what was happening, but I can definitely see the addictive nature of the game.
Hi Andregurov the game starts off with 5×5 grids so it eases you into it gently… Feel free to check out the free trial. =)
