Dispensing with the guns of Robotron 2084, Smash TV, “I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1”, and Geometry Wars, and replacing them with the big swords of 3D Dot Heroes and the arena-based combat of classic 8-bit Zeldas, “Retro Arcade Adventure” was a revelation.
Like with the classic games it’s drawing from, it’s difficult at times (I hear tell that the developer has plans to release an update that will adjust the difficulty of some bosses). The games of my youth weren’t cakewalks either (I never did finish Super Mario Brothers, or Delta on the Commodore 64, or… well, hundreds of other games).
This updated take on the original is worth another 80 Microsoft Points for fans of the original, and is the definitive version for those new to the series due to a greater variety of enemies, stages, power-ups, and more.
“Retro Arcade Adventure Remade”
Here’s what the developer (SIACTRO) has to say about the game:
“Retro styled Hack and Slash action with a fire breathing variety of Power Ups and huge bosses. Includes two Minigames.”
