Day 1000: Bad Caterpillar

Posted: 2013/08/06 in Indie Games

I decided to review a Kris Steele (AKA Fun Infused Games) title for my 1000th game. How could I do otherwise? After all, Day 1 was Kris Steele’s excellent “Hypership Out of Control” (not to be confused with his, also excellent, “Trivia Or Die”, “Nasty”, “VolChaos”, “Trivia Or Die: Movie Edition”, “Hypership Still Out of Control”, and the criminally underrated “Abduction Action!”).

“Bad Caterpillar” is a revelation. It does the near impossible, taking a trackball-based arcade game (Centipede) and making it playable with a thumbstick. These controls are *tight*. And Kris has added upgrades along the way (screen-clearing bombs ala “Geometry Wars”, and other power-ups). He’s even taken the time to create fake retro arcade cabinet art, and then put it on the sides of the screen.

It’s another solid entry by Fun Infused Games, and worth 80 Microsoft Points if you liked Centipede and are looking for an upgraded evolution of it.

Here’s what the developer (Fun Infused Games) has to say about the game:

“Bad Caterpillars and their swarms of insect hordes are invading. Get to your ship, man the lasers, and save the galaxy from caterpillars, scorpions, spiders, and a slew of other ill-tempered giant killer insects.”

Congrats on reaching 1000! Good choice for the milestone, too. Still kinda bummed I never reviewed the game for my own site, but I definitely had fun playing it.
