How did I not know about this before?! “Cowbots” melds an unlikely combination of three genres into one: dual-stick shooters, tower-defence, and card games, and it does it well.
At it’s core, it’s a twin-stick shooter. However, you’re also earning cards as you play, and using them to spawn both turrets and roving defence units. Everything’s in an old west meets high-tech theme, so you’re spawning the banker, the chief of a local tribe, a cannon, robots with cowboy hats, etc. The trailer is brief, so here’s a longer gameplay video:
You have varying modes of play, both multiplayer competitive and co-operative, and solo play. It’s innovative, and somehow all gels together, and is easily worth a trial to see if this crazy combo is your cup of tea or not.
Here’s what the developer (Angry Wizard Games) has to say about the game:
“This twin-stick shooter mixed with a turn-based card game offers loads of fun! Through three unique game modes, experience the wild west with explosions, teepees, cowboys hats and robots! Play with a friend in multiplayer mode.”
